Follow this selection of Inbox Preview screens that reveal some eye-opening, hidden problems in our sample email test (click on a thumbnail to enlarge the image)...

  The Inbox Preview tool shows our sample email, as it will appear in Outlook Express 6.

  Compare this to the Outlook 2007 preview, further down.

  Everything looks good here, but keep an eye on the red line. This is the email 'fold'. Content below this line won't be seen without scrolling down.

  Now see how different the same email looks when Inbox Preview shows it in a Gmail inbox.

  We've lost our background colour, spacing and formatting at the top, our font formatting has been lost and the animated image is so small it's hardly visible!

  Here's our email previewed in Outlook 2007 with images set to On.

  We're missing our logo, background colours, the main image, our subtitles, our bullet points and formatings - and even our unsubscribe footer text!

  In Windows Live Hotmail, even with images switched on as default, the preview reveals some problems.

  At the top and bottom we've lost our background colour and layout formatting. The body text runs wide of the main image and the layout formatting for our bullet points has gone.

  The user may treat this as spam and hit the 'Junk' button causing damage to your future Hotmail deliverability.
